License hearings

Your license is on a deadline. Ask for the hearing.

A suspension notice usually gives a short window to ask for a hearing. When it closes, the suspension just takes effect. We file the request, gather your records and speak for you at the hearing.

Notices we handle

  • Suspensions after a DUI arrest or a refused test

  • Points and repeat-violation notices

  • Unpaid tickets or fines that put a hold on your license

  • Reinstatement: fees, classes and ignition interlock

  • Limited permits for work and school, where the law allows

Before, during and after the hearing

  • Before you go in

We file the request on time, ask for the agency's file and tell you what to bring.

  • In the room

We question the notice, the stop and the paperwork, and speak for you so you aren't alone in the room.

  • Once it's decided

If the suspension stands, we explain the end date and the steps and costs of getting your license back.

About the hearing itself

How long do I have to ask for a hearing?

The notice states it, and it can be as short as a few days. Call as soon as you have the paper, even if you don't understand it yet.

Do I have to come in person?

Some hearings are by phone or video. We tell you which kind yours is and what to have ready.

Can I get a permit to drive to work?

Sometimes. It depends on the reason for the suspension and your record. We check before you plan around it.

Notice dated this month? Ask us the first day.

The sooner we see the notice, the more of its window is left to use.
